Inspiration
(Note from Peter)
The worldwide cyberattack of July 2, 2021, sparked the idea for this novel. I’ve woven elements of that real event into the storyline, imagining how a Russian pharmaceutical company might have stolen research for a revolutionary Alzheimer’s cure. This book is therefore partly rooted in truth.
Lucy Lassiter has it all. As the daughter of Jacky and Bill Lassiter—owners of one of the world’s most powerful pharmaceutical empires—she lives a life of wealth, glamour, and constant attention. With a private jet at her command, a luxurious Manhattan apartment, and a beauty that captivates every room, she’s the darling of the tabloids, always surrounded by admirers.
But her perfect world shatters when she meets Oliver Corbyn—a man shrouded in mystery and consumed by a dangerous mission. He’s determined to recover stolen research on her parents’ groundbreaking Alzheimer’s cure. The trail points to a shadowy Russian corporation, poised to profit from a cure that isn’t theirs—and Oliver will stop at nothing to take them down.
Despite the undeniable attraction between them, Oliver keeps his distance, knowing that closeness could cost them both everything. Yet as they are drawn deeper into a web of deception, espionage, and betrayal, the line between ally and enemy blurs. With their lives on the line, Lucy and Oliver must decide: how far are they willing to go to reclaim the stolen cure? And what are they willing to sacrifice—for justice, for love, and for each other?
Book reviews
This novel is a perfect blend of thriller and romance. The backdrop of the pharmaceutical world made the story feel unique and relevant. I loved how the author explored the theme of justice while still giving us a touching and emotional love story. It’s the kind of book that lingers with you long after you finish. Five stars without hesitation.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this story blew me away. The characters felt so real, and I found myself rooting for Lucy and Oliver even when the odds were stacked against them. The tension between them was both heartbreaking and beautiful. The espionage side of the plot kept me on edge, and the emotional depth made it unforgettable. Peter Van Oossanen has written something truly powerful here.

This book gripped me from the very first page. I felt like I was right there in the glamorous yet dangerous world of Lucy Lassiter, watching her perfect life unravel. The mix of romance, suspense, and high-stakes drama kept me turning the pages late into the night. Peter Van Oossanen has such a gift for storytelling. This book made me think deeply about love, sacrifice, and how far people will go for justice. Absolutely brilliant.

The characters felt lived-in and messy in all the right ways. Lucy’s arc from sheltered heiress to someone willing to take real risks is handled thoughtfully, and Oliver’s moral code is convincingly fraught. There are real surprises here that landed for me, and the ending stuck the emotional landing. Highly recommended.

Brilliant plotting. The book smartly alternates between quiet character moments and big, suspenseful set pieces. I appreciated that the science was never dumbed down but kept accessible, which made the threat surrounding the Alzheimer’s cure feel plausible. The romance never undermines the thriller elements; instead it strengthens them.

Emotionally resonant and fast-moving. Lucy is glamorous but not shallow her vulnerability is real, especially when the family business and morality collide. Oliver’s motivations and tactics create constant tension, and the back-and-forth between danger and intimacy kept me hooked. I’d recommend this to readers who like their romance with a side of espionage.

Compelling from the first scene. The author writes with a clean, cinematic style that makes every set piece easy to picture. The procedural details around the stolen research are convincing enough to be scary, but the heart of the story is the way Lucy and Oliver slowly learn to trust each other. One of the most satisfying thriller-romances I’ve read recently.

This is the kind of romantic thriller that gets the pulse racing while still letting you care about the people. Oliver’s secrecy and Lucy’s conflicted loyalties made their chemistry complicated and believable. The Russian corporate villain felt genuinely menacing and helped the stakes feel global rather than personal drama only. Tight pacing and just enough heartbreak to keep me thinking about the book after I finished.

Really enjoyed this. The set-pieces are tense and well-executed, and Lucy is a complex lead who grows through the story. I docked one star because a minor subplot felt slightly underdeveloped and could have used an extra chapter. Still a very rewarding read overall.

Great read overall. The plot moves briskly and the chemistry between Lucy and Oliver is palpable not cheap, but earned in most scenes. I appreciated how the author handled the corporate espionage and the ethical dilemmas; those beats elevated the story beyond a standard romance. A couple of secondary characters could have used more development, and one subplot felt rushed at the end, which is why I’m giving four stars instead of five. Still extremely entertaining, emotionally satisfying, and well written. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes page-turners with a heart.

I tore through this book in one long weekend. The mix of high-stakes pharmaceutical intrigue and a slowly building romance was perfectly balanced; Lucy’s privileged life contrasted sharply with the danger around the stolen research, which made her choices feel weighty. The author’s handling of the ethical questions around an Alzheimer’s cure gave the plot real emotional weight, and the twists felt earned rather than thrown in for shock. I loved the ending, satisfying and bittersweet.

Wow, I was hooked from page one. The author blends high-stakes pharmaceutical intrigue with a tender, slow-burn romance in a way that felt both cinematic and believable. Lucy is a fascinating lead: glamorous but vulnerable, and her moral conflict about her family’s work made her easy to root for. Oliver’s mission and the layers of deception kept me guessing; the twists landed without feeling forced. The pacing is excellent, tense when it needs to be, quietly emotional in the quieter scenes, and the research/ethical questions about a potential Alzheimer’s cure add real weight. I stayed up too late reading this. Highly recommended for fans of romantic thrillers who like their stories smart and emotional

An absolutely gripping thriller! The story pulls you into a world of power, betrayal, and secrets that feel all too real. Lucy and Oliver’s partnership had me glued to the pages, I couldn’t turn them fast enough.

The writing is razor-sharp and cinematic. I could see every scene in my head as if I were watching a blockbuster film. This author knows how to build tension.

This is not just another fast-paced thriller, it’s a book that makes you think deeply about ethics, medicine, and the kind of decisions powerful corporations make. The idea of a pharmaceutical company hiding or losing control of a potential cure for Alzheimer’s is chilling, especially because it feels all too plausible in our world. The author handles the theme with intelligence, weaving it into a nail-biting story full of espionage and betrayal. Lucy and Oliver aren’t just pawns in a bigger game; they’re human beings who must grapple with impossible choices. That humanity is what makes this story so compelling. Yes, there’s action, glamour, and danger, but what really stuck with me is the emotional weight of the questions it raises: What would you risk for justice? And what is the price of love when lives are at stake? I closed the book not only entertained but unsettled, in the best way possible.

Readers anticipating a medical story from the book’s title may be surprised to learn that The Alzheimer’s Cure is actually a thriller. It involves protagonist Lucy Lassiter in a world-changing chase to recover stolen research on an Alzheimer’s cure developed by her parents’ company. Russian special interests and personal ambition collide in a vivid chase through nations and medical rights issues that thriller audiences will relish. Peter Van Oossanen’s story is loosely based on real facts, but holds no predictable approaches to the cure or its embattled status. The plot builds strong interpersonal relationships as well as fast-paced action, evolving interactions between Oliver, Sasha, Lucy, and a host of supporting characters whose interests dovetail over the cure and its future. The interpersonal conflicts that evolve between characters during the course of the adventure lend discovery and psychological depth to its plot: “I need to see everything that has happened differently,” Lucy protested. “I’m aware that you see your decision to not consider my needs on that fateful day when I left you as wrong. But I should have been strong and fought for us. I didn’t, and I allowed myself to fall in with the wrong people again and become addicted to alcohol. I feel very guilty about that, and each time I hear you say everything is your fault, that feeling of guilt consumes me.” Also notable are the connections to real-world ethical and social dilemmas which test each personality in a different manner, giving rise to thought-provoking moments as the action unfolds. Libraries seeking thrillers that operate on international shores, reveal heady confrontations and unexpected impacts of decisions, survey the impact of a medical breakthrough on relationships and society as a whole, and contain kidnappings, espionage, and romance will find The Alzheimer’s Cure an excellent recommendation for patrons interested in romantic suspense stories. Filled with delightfully unexpected twists, The Alzheimer’s Cure is a drama that is vigorous, invigorating, and hard to put down.

The Alzheimer’s Cure by Peter Van Oossanen is a high-stakes thriller that blends medical intrigue, romance, and espionage. The novel opens at the Monaco Yacht Show, where Lucy Lassiter, heiress to a pharmaceutical empire, meets Oliver Corbyn, a mysterious figure whose involvement in a stolen cure for Alzheimer’s disease propels them into a globe-spanning mission. The premise taps into real-world anxieties about corporate competition and the moral implications of life-saving discoveries. Lucy begins as a seemingly superficial socialite, yet through her interactions with Oliver, she evolves into a more grounded and determined figure. Oliver, whose intelligence and moral compass guide much of the narrative, is equally compelling, though his secretive nature creates friction that fuels the romantic subplot. Their banter and gradual trust-building provide emotional balance to the story’s darker corporate and political machinations.
The narrative is fast-paced, alternating between glamorous locales and tense covert operations. The Alzheimer’s cure at the center of the plot provides a scientific backdrop and a moral fulcrum: billions are at stake, but so are the lives of millions. This tension adds depth to what might otherwise be a straightforward espionage tale. Thematically, the novel explores trust, sacrifice, and the ethical gray areas of pharmaceutical competition. It raises the question of whether curing a devastating disease can ever justify the means of espionage, deception, and personal risk. The global settings are detailed, ranging from luxury yachts to high-stakes conferences in Moscow, which enhances the sense of urgency and danger. For readers who enjoy romantic suspense set against a backdrop of scientific and corporate intrigue, The Alzheimer’s Cure by Peter Van Oossanen offers a satisfying blend of action and emotional depth. Its appeal lies in its ability to humanize a medical breakthrough through personal relationships while maintaining a taut, cinematic pace.

This is a gripping read about the race between big pharmaceutical companies to be the first to discover what would be a very lucrative cure for Alzheimer’s disease. This is a fast-paced story of intrigue, ambition, espionage, kidnappings, and romance. It unfolds in the USA, Russia, Finland, Belarus, and Monaco. It’s a meaningful story to me because my family has been devastated by the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, like millions of people around the world who are hopeful for a cure.
