Inspiration
(Note from Peter)
The worldwide cyberattack on July 2, 2021, was the inspiration for this novel. I have woven the details thereof into the storyline to describe how a pharmaceutical company in Russia stole the information on a revolutionary cure for Alzheimer’s disease. This novel is thus partly based on a true event.
Lucy Lassiter has it all. As the daughter of Jacky and Bill Lassiter—owners of one of the world’s most powerful pharmaceutical empires—she’s wealthy, glamorous, and constantly in the spotlight. With a private jet at her disposal, a lavish Manhattan apartment, and a beauty that turns heads, she’s the darling of the tabloids, always surrounded by admirers.
But her world shatters when she crosses paths with Oliver Corbyn—a man cloaked in mystery and driven by a dangerous mission. He’s determined to recover stolen research on a groundbreaking Alzheimer’s cure developed by her parents’ company. The trail leads to a shadowy pharmaceutical company in Russia, one poised to profit from a cure they have no right to own—and Oliver will stop at nothing to prevent it.
Despite the undeniable pull between them, Oliver keeps his distance, knowing that getting too close could cost them both everything. Yet as they’re drawn into a web of deception, espionage, and betrayal, the line between ally and enemy blurs. With their lives at stake, Lucy and Oliver must decide: How far will they go to retrieve the stolen research? And how much are they willing to sacrifice—for justice, for love, and for each other?
Book reviews
The Alzheimer’s Cure by Peter Van Oossanen is a high-stakes thriller that blends medical intrigue, romance, and espionage. The novel opens at the Monaco Yacht Show, where Lucy Lassiter, heiress to a pharmaceutical empire, meets Oliver Corbyn, a mysterious figure whose involvement in a stolen cure for Alzheimer’s disease propels them into a globe-spanning mission. The premise taps into real-world anxieties about corporate competition and the moral implications of life-saving discoveries. Lucy begins as a seemingly superficial socialite, yet through her interactions with Oliver, she evolves into a more grounded and determined figure. Oliver, whose intelligence and moral compass guide much of the narrative, is equally compelling, though his secretive nature creates friction that fuels the romantic subplot. Their banter and gradual trust-building provide emotional balance to the story’s darker corporate and political machinations.
The narrative is fast-paced, alternating between glamorous locales and tense covert operations. The Alzheimer’s cure at the center of the plot provides a scientific backdrop and a moral fulcrum: billions are at stake, but so are the lives of millions. This tension adds depth to what might otherwise be a straightforward espionage tale. Thematically, the novel explores trust, sacrifice, and the ethical gray areas of pharmaceutical competition. It raises the question of whether curing a devastating disease can ever justify the means of espionage, deception, and personal risk. The global settings are detailed, ranging from luxury yachts to high-stakes conferences in Moscow, which enhances the sense of urgency and danger. For readers who enjoy romantic suspense set against a backdrop of scientific and corporate intrigue, The Alzheimer’s Cure by Peter Van Oossanen offers a satisfying blend of action and emotional depth. Its appeal lies in its ability to humanize a medical breakthrough through personal relationships while maintaining a taut, cinematic pace.

Set against a backdrop of luxury, power, and danger, this novel takes readers on an intense journey through the world of pharmaceutical giants, shadowy alliances, and moral dilemmas. This is a gripping read about the race between big pharmaceutical companies to be the first to discover what would be a very lucrative cure for Alzheimer’s disease. This is a fast-paced story of intrigue, ambition, espionage, kidnappings, and romance. It unfolds in the USA, Russia, Finland, Belarus, and Monaco. It’s a meaningful story to me because my family has been devastated by the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, like millions of people around the world who are hopeful for a cure. Cynthia Cook, author of What Really Happened to the Hat and the Gloves.
The Alzheimer’s Cure by Peter Van Oossanen is both plot and character-driven, with complex interactions between protagonists Oliver Corbyn and Lucy Lassiter as they confront extreme hardship. This novel would be excellent for the romantic suspense reader. The story unfolds in various locations around the world. And, unlike many books in this genre, they are both strong. You will crave every moment they spend together while trying to retrieve a stolen revolutionary cure. Undreya Billups, D4EO Literary Agency.
This was a wonderful read! Definitely attention-getting. I love Lucy and Oliver. They had this interesting banter that I quite enjoyed. Their relationship was complex, nonetheless, and I craved every moment they spent together, all while trying to retrieve a stolen revolutionary cure. Well done, Peter! I will proceed with The Alzheimer’s Cure, Bob Diforio, D4EO Literary Agency.
